Demo derby at Cessnock Showground

Cessnock Showground will hold a massive fundraiser on Saturday, August 18 with a full day of family fun including the Australian Demolition Derby titles.

There will be up to seven demolition derby heats and finals on the day, and it will also feature the return of the caravan demolition derby that proved so popular at this year's Cessnock Show, and the unique concept of the "Dunny Derby", featuring portaloos, will appear at Cessnock Showground for the first time.

There will also be mud drag racing in three categories - four-wheel drives; quadbikes and motorbikes - and motorbike wheelstanding events, with great prizes up for grabs.

Gates open at 11am and the program starts at 12pm. Hot food will be available, and there will be kids' rides and live music throughout the day. There will be full bar facilities and the event is strictly no BYO alcohol.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $4 for children and $25 for a family pass, and funds raised on the day will go to Cessnock Showground.

A meeting and barbecue will be held at Cessnock Showground this Saturday at 1pm for those interested in taking part in the events.

For further information about the demolition derbies contact Dave Ryan on 0403 836 598, or about the motorbike events contact Malcolm Hall at Cessnock Motorcycles on 4990 2527.

Just spoke with Dave and he said there's no mud drags planned for August but they are looking at doing something around December. It appears the link I was sent relates to the mud drags that were held in August 2007, funny thing is neither of us noticed the date of the article

Anyhow they are looking at doing a camp over or something, Dave said it'll be "Bring ya swag" .....nothing definite organised at this stage
